Last time A New Advice added: 12/17/2025
If like me, you prefer asking the craft designers directly about problems you face in remaking their crafts, this is the right place. Since I regularly gather useful advice on paper crafts from conversations with some of the leading crafters online, I will share it here.
They have always been quite happy to get some time guiding me.
From common paper craft FAQs to some nerd questions and crafters’ experiences, my podcasts with crafters will be covered here.

Advice #1: On Origami Neatness
When it comes to the neatness in the cutting of paper sheets and the overall finish of paper craft, you can go nowhere but Gift Wrapping Love. Here is what she advised me on “Why is my finished origami full of creases?”
“This one is a great question, and being honest, beginner origami experience that the most [their craft is full of creases due to mistakes].
I usually suggest that in this case, it is better to start with a larger paper sheet instead of a small one. This way, your hands feel less restricted than with a smallpiece of paper.
So, you can work on detailed creases. It is the best way to start your first few folds.
Maybe it’s the YouTube tutorial, so set the playback speed to something like 0.5 to 0.75. [Since origami sometimes becomes messy to learn].
I also recommend watching the step first, pausing, and then folding yours. Don’t try to fold at the same time as the video. If it is one of the first vert folds, you can’t expect a craft as clean as mine….
Creators on Pinterest and YouTube have spent their time folding the same model hundreds or even thousands of times. That’s the part of their background work while designing anything. When I learn something new, it does not look as clean as you guys usually see….

So, how to add neatness to your origami work?
- If you are following an origami tutorial or pattern, first practice folding your model on a piece of paper from a notebook.
- After passing through the period of trial and error, remake the final model in the premium sheet.
- Before making a permanent crease, check if your paper looks the same as the designer’s.
- Practice the fundamental origami folds and bases. These are the basis of every origami project.
- Use a ruler to make clean creases.
- Work on a solid, uncluttered flat surface.
- Make solid creases, as the opposite causes a lot of clutter in your paper.
- Keep no room for crease mistakes.
