I will discuss most of the puppet types in this discussion. Those are the jumping toy, bookmark, paper bag, origami, talking, stick-attached, and even hanging puppets. There is no doubt that all of them are cuter and MUCH PLAYABLE! Also, included my favorite ones, such as the loopy shell turtle and the moving fish! So, try them for sure!
Note: Origami puppets such as talking fish and koi fish that I talked about here are advanced models.
Suggestion #1: Paper Cup Octopus Craft
Let’s make a Mood octopus toy using two paper cups and colored paper with this method. Cut one cup to make the legs and use the other cup to make the head with eyes and a mouth.
A paper spring goes between the cup so the octopus can jump when you press it down. I like it much with the actual kawaii eyes that kids can make on their own, and a puffy bow!
Suggestion #2: Paper Octopus Bookmark
Make this kawaii octopus bookmark and puppet using craft paper in different colors and a jumbo craft stick. Cut out paper shapes for the head and arms with the help of a FREE printable template and glue them with a small smile.
The finished octopus sits on a stick to hold your place in a book. PDF also includes templates for cute head spots, blush, and the back arms.
Suggestion #3: DIY Paper Fish Crafts
It is odd to recommend a curation in a curation, but here are all redtedart fish crafts that also include cute fish puppets. Includes many ways to make fish with paper, glue, and scissors.
You can make fish that fold like fans or fish made with paper strips. These easy crafts use bright colors to make fun decorations for your home, such as the Paper Weaving Fish shown above, which will let you reuse paper scraps.
Suggestion #4: Beluga Whale Puppet Craft
Introduce the kids to the beluga whale by making this printable beluga whale puppet on a paper bag with white paper cutouts. Print and cut out the pieces from the template for the whale head, body, and fins.
Then, guide the kids to glue the whale pieces and some blue paper onto the brown bag to make the whale. Kids can then use the paper bag to play with their new whale puppet.
Suggestion #5: Paper Loops Turtle Craft
I have not seen that interesting way to make the turtle shell before! So, be sure to DIY this cute turtle puppet with a 3D shell. Just cut out a paper turtle body with the help of a FREE printable template and many small strips of colored paper.
Then glue the ends of the strips to make loops and stick them onto the turtle’s back. This simple activity uses glue and scissors and can be done in less than 20 minutes.
Suggestion #6: Crab Paper Bag Puppet
Here is another CUTE paper bag puppet craft! So, be sure to make this kawaii eye crab puppet using cardstock and a FREE printable template.
Use paper, glue, and scissors to put the crab pieces on the bag. The crab has a red body, many legs, and two big claws. This BIG toy will let the kids play to their heart’s content and tell stories about the ocean.
Suggestion #7: Moving Paper Fish Craft
Note that I have covered a similar idea in the discussion on “Sea Animal Crafts.” For now, let’s DIY this funny fish toy out of colored paper. It is an origami, gluing, and cutting craft. Its body will wiggle, just like it is “swimming” whenever you wave its arms while holding it.
The idea is to fold a square sheet of paper and make small cuts along the middle to help the fish’s body move. Make it from origami Kite Base and attach cutouts for the tongue, fins, tail, and eyes.
Suggestion #8: Fish Paper Bag Puppet
Let’s make a big baby fish puppet using a paper bag with this method, again with a FREE printable template. Kids will cut out shapes from the paper template and glue them onto the bag to make a face, body, and fins. They can also color instead of cutting from the cardstock.
The paper bag fish has big eyes and a moving mouth, so kids can play with it later. It is a fun and easy art activity that uses simple tools like scissors and glue.
Suggestion #9: Easy Talking Origami Fish
Learn how to fold a 3D origami talking fish that can LITERALLY move its mouth with this method. This is a traditional model, and Alice of Hello Origami presented the CUTEST variation of it on her channel. This method will make a solid-colored talking fish from a square sheet of paper.
The paper fish can open and close its mouth as if it is talking when you pull the sides. Recommended sheet type is Kami paper for this. The main technique used here is to make a repeating diamond creasing pattern all along in a diamond position.
Suggestion #10: Origami Koi Fish Craft
You can introduce the kids to the incredible work of Riccardo Foschi by folding this origami koi fish puppet. Just requires one sheet of paper.
Requires only simple folds to make a 3D body with a curved head and a flared tail. It does not require a creasing pattern, unlike the talking fish, and can be folded if you are at beginner level 5. Once the folding is complete, you add googly eyes or paper circles to give the fish a face
