Free Crochet Travelling Kitten Plushie for Summer

If you are heading on a summer trip, be sure to have this crochet chubby travelling kitten plushie as your pal. Like you, she has prepared herself with a strawberry bucket hat and a crochet fish sling bag. It is small enough to be used as a bag charm when you crochet it with a thin plush yarn or even amigurumi yarn. Today, I will provide a full pattern to crochet it and an inspiration for a 2nd version that wears a dragonfruit bucket hat and has a grey colour for the cat.

Both look oh-so cute. And to share a secret tip with you, you can also turn this crochet summer kitty pattern into a Cinnamorol traveller pattern for kids. • R20: 6(X, A, X) (18)
  • Stuff firmly with fiberfill.
  • R21: 6(X, A) (12)
  • Fasten off, leaving a long tail. To close the remaining gap, weave the tail through the front loops of every other stitch (6 times total), pull tight to close completely, and hide the yarn tail inside the body.

2. Hands & Feet (Make 4)

Use Yellow yarn. The arms and legs are made identically.

  • Row 1: Ch 4. Starting from the 2nd chain from the hook: 1 HDC, 1 HDC, 1 X.
  • Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

3. Tail

Use Brown yarn.

  • Row 1: Ch 12. Starting from the 2nd chain from the hook: 5 HDC (one in each of the next 5 chains), then 6 Sl St (one in each of the remaining 6 chains).
  • Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

4. Tomato Hat

Use Red yarn.

  • R1: 6 X in MR (6)
  • R2: 6 V (12)
  • R3: 6(X, V) (18)
  • R4: 18 X (18)
  • R5 (FLO): 6(2X, V) (24)
  • R6: 24 Sl St (24)
  • Fasten off and weave in the ends.

Leaf for Hat

Use Green yarn.

  • In a Magic Ring: Ch 3, start from the 2nd chain from hook: 1 HDC, 1 X. Sl St back into the MR.
  • Repeat one more time: Ch 3, start from the 2nd chain from hook: 1 HDC, 1 X. Sl St back into the MR.
  • Pull the magic ring tight. Fasten off and leave a long tail to sew the leaves onto the center top of the red hat.

5. Ears (Make 2)

Use Brown yarn.

  • R1: 3 X in MR (3)
  • Row 2: Turn your work, Ch 1, 1 X in the first stitch, 1 HDC in the next stitch, 1 Sl St in the final stitch.
  • Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

6. Fish Bag

Use Green yarn. Work in a continuous spiral (do not join rounds).

  • R1: 6 X in MR (6)
  • R2: 3(X, V) (9)
  • R3–4: 9 X (9)
  • R5: 3(X, A) (6)
  • R6 (FLO): (2 V, 1 Sl St) repeat 2 times total (This forms the little tail fins).
  • Flatten the top opening of the bag, work a final Sl St through both sides to close it shut, then Ch 40 to create the bag strap. Fasten off and sew the end of the chain strap to the opposite side of the fish bag.

7. Assembly & Details

  1. Hat: Secure or glue the red hat onto the very top center of the cat’s head.
  2. Ears: Sew the two brown ears to the head directly along the sides of the hat.
  3. Hands (Arms): Attach the arms to the sides of the body between R10 and R11.
  4. Feet (Legs): Sew the legs to the lower front-bottom of the body between R17 and R18.
  5. Tail: Sew the tail to the back center of the cat’s body between R14 and R15.

  1. Face & Final Touches:
    • Embroider two small eyes and a simple mouth onto the face using black or dark brown thread.
    • Embroider a tiny eye onto the fish bag.
    • Drape the fish bag over the cat’s shoulder.
    • Apply a small amount of pink blush onto the cheeks for a cute finish.

And that’s how you will want to crochet this cat plushie!
