Let’s craft the CUTEST paper bag puppets with kids using FREE printable templates! While I have already suggested most of the sea creature puppet ideas in the last discussion, I have still added many sea creature animal paper bag puppets here.
All these require just assembling the character onto a small brown paper bag, and most of them won’t take more than 20 minutes. The idea in these paper bag animals and more puppets is to make the face of the puppet detached from the body.
So, kids can insert their hands and have a working paper puppet. Playing and making these puppets will definitely be the MOST FUN indoor activity for kids. Along with the sea and beach animals, you can choose from a butterfly, a policeman, an elephant, a bunny, and more safari animals. So, let’s talk!
Suggestion #1: Paper Bag Harry Potter Puppet
For International Harry Potter Day on May 2, or just as a fan craft, let the kids make this baby Harry Potter paper bag puppet with a FREE template. I will soon also discuss Harry Potter party decor ideas and paper crafts for kids here.
Anyway, this Harry Potter puppet will be REALLY fun to assemble as the template has separate parts for the outfit, hair, scarf, body, and even hair.
Use markers to draw Harry’s face, scar, and scarf stripes, too. Glue the hair and scarf to the head, then assemble the robe. Stick the head onto the brown paper bag flap and the body below.
Suggestion #2: Humpback Whale Puppet Craft
You can introduce the kids to the gigantic Hump Whale by letting them make this oh-so cute blushing and smiling whale paper bag puppet. It is quicker to assemble from the template than the suggestion #1, as the template has fewer parts.
Just glue the whale’s head and eyes onto the bag’s flap. Glue the body and fins to the bottom part. Finally, use markers to draw spots and belly lines for detail.
Suggestion #3: Paper Bag Bunny Craft
This quick blushing girl bunny paper bag is definitely the CUTEST bunny paper craft, and again, kinda easy to assemble. As you see, I have also designed an origami bunny paper craft, but the precision and ease of a template make it REALLY the best for preschoolers.
The one I made was a bunny in a life-like pose, but this one is an adorable bunny character with a pink nose and blush. To make it:
- Glue the eyes, nose, and cheeks on the face.
- Attach the ears to the back of the head.
- Glue the body and belly to the bag.
- Add arms and the tail.
- Glue the head onto the top flap.
Bonus Suggestion: Stitch Paper Roll Craft!
Today’s bonus suggestion: learn how to make a 5-minute easy Stitch puppet from a tissue paper roll. You can also make it over a brown paper bag, as I imagine it would be even cuter that way. Just cut the arms and legs in addition. To cut face and the belly, again, you will find a FREE printable template.
Cut the template from blue, light blue, and pink craft paper, and cut out the pieces. Glue the pink inner ears to the blue ears and add light blue circles for the eyes. Draw the face with a marker. Glue the blue rectangle around a toilet paper roll, then attach the head and ears.
Suggestion #5: Octopus Paper Bag Puppet
Since it is summer, and the kawaii octopus character is so adorable, there is no way not to fall in love with this octopus puppet. It also has an addition of an ocean rectangle below that makes it even more FUN. Both the orange and purple look perfect to me, but if I had to choose, I would make the orange one! Face will move when the kid inserts the hand.
To make this puppet, print and cut the octopus template. Glue eyes, cheeks, and marker-drawn spots onto the head. Attach the head to a brown paper bag’s flap. Glue a blue cardstock rectangle with drawn waves to the bag. Add the octopus body and draw suction cups on the arms with markers.
Suggestion #6: Fish Paper Bag Puppet
Again, from the sea creature crafts, be sure to make this goldfish paper bag puppet craft with a printable template. Kids can take it to the beach and use it as a pouch for collecting on the beach. It requires the bag to be used horizontally, and that makes it fun and based on natural posture while sitting! You can also choose from two colors! The face part will move in this puppet.
To make this fish puppet, use a brown paper bag, colored cardstock, scissors, glue, and the template. Cut out the template pieces. Glue the fish’s face and eye to the head. Attach the fins to the head and body. Glue the body to the bag and the head to the flap.
Suggestion #7: Giraffe Paper Bag Puppet
At Giraffe Day on the 21st June, craft with the kids this baby Giraffe puppet using colored cardstock and a FREE printable template. This template will be fun to assemble, as it includes the Giraffe body spots and many more small details that kids will love to glue onto. The face is hand-drawn!
Using cardstock, a paper bag, a pencil, scissors, glue, and Sharpies, trace and cut the giraffe templates. Glue the ears, horns, and spots onto the head and body. Draw the face with Sharpies. Finally, paste the body and head onto the paper bag to finish your cute giraffe puppet!
Suggestion #8: Policeman Craft for Kids
For crime and the city story plays, make this police officer puppet using a paper bag and craft paper. It is a simple craft that kids can play with to learn about people who help in the community. Using cardstock, a paper bag, a pencil, scissors, glue, and Sharpies, trace and cut the giraffe templates.
Glue the ears, horns, and spots onto the head and body. Draw the face with Sharpies. Finally, paste the body and head onto the paper bag to finish your cute giraffe puppet!
Suggestion #9: Butterfly Paper Hand Puppet
For spring, make this easy-peasy butterfly hand puppet using bright paper. You fold and glue two pieces of paper to make a base that fits onto your hand.
Then, you cut out large wings and add a small body and long feelers to the top. When you move your hand, the wings move up and down to make the butterfly look like it is flying.
Suggestion #10: Crab Paper Bag Puppet
Here is another cute beach creature paper bag puppet craft! So, be sure to make this kawaii eye crab puppet using cardstock and a FREE printable template with cute smile, big, kawaii eyes, and blue card below.
Use paper, glue, and scissors to put the crab pieces on the bag. The crab has a red body, many legs, and two big claws. This BIG toy will let the kids play to their heart’s content and tell stories about the ocean.
