Crochet These Lacy Crochet Snowflake Ornaments

Difficulty Level

  • Level: Advanced Beginner

  • Why: The pattern works up quickly using foundational crochet stitches, but it transitions beyond basic rows. Crocheters must work in the round from a magic ring, work tall stitches (treble crochet) into open chain spaces, and form small chain-loop picots on top of stitches to shape the snowflake points without twisting their tension.

Materials

  • Yarn: 3-ply yarn in two contrasting colors (Bright Lime Green and Crisp White)

  • Crochet Hook: 3.0 mm

  • Notions: Scissors and a tapestry needle (for weaving ends)

Pattern Abbreviations (US Terms)

  • ch: Chain

  • sl st: Slip stitch

  • sc: Single crochet

  • dc: Double crochet

  • tr: Treble (triple) crochet

  • spc / sp: Space

  • st(s): Stitch(es)

  • rep: Repeat

Special / Complex Stitch Instructions

Treble Crochet (tr)

  1. Yarn over twice around your hook before inserting into the work.

  2. Insert hook into the designated chain space, yarn over, and pull up a loop (you will have 4 loops on your hook).

  3. Yarn over and pull through the first 2 loops (3 loops remain).

  4. Yarn over and pull through the next 2 loops (2 loops remain).

  5. Yarn over and pull through the last 2 loops to complete the stitch.

Decorative Chain Loop / Picot Point (3-ch or 6-ch loop)

  1. After completing your treble or double crochet stitch, chain the required number (e.g., ch 3 or ch 6).

  2. Insert your hook down through the top and front vertical loop/bar at the top of the stitch you just made.

  3. Yarn over and pull the yarn through both the stitch and the loop on your hook in one smooth motion (slip stitch). This locks the chain arch into a pointed petal tip.
