Tutorial to Make A Pipe Cleaner Standing Fox

This project is about making a small fox from pipe cleaners. You use orange, white, and black pipe cleaners. First, you make the head. You bend the orange wire to make ears and a pointy nose. Then, you use black wire for the eyes and nose. Next, you make the body. You wrap orange wire around a middle wire. You add black wire at the bottom for legs. Then, you add a long orange tail. Finally, you put white wire on the belly. It is a fun and easy toy to make at home.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Make the Head
Take an orange pipe cleaner. Bend it in half. Then, twist about 1cm down to the curved part tightly to make the first ear. Then, move the right end upward, then downward such that you leave the same 1cm to make another small loop. Twist it tight to make another ear.

2. Add the Face Details

Cut a very small piece of black pipe cleaner and fold it in half. Twist it around at the very tip and fan out the ends to make a Y-shape. Now, to make the snout, take that Y-piece and insert the dip part of the Y horizontally through both the ends of the orange piece just below the ears. Take the top Y ends and twist them to secure the snout.

Now, take an orange pipe cleaner and wrap it around the longer part (bottom of Y) of the snout, making a cone shape such that you leave a black spot! Now, to make the head shape. You will want to also weave around the ear pipe cleaners, and it will thicken the face. Just, wrap the complete 20 cm pipe cleaner.

3. Build the Body Frame

Take the black pipe cleaner and leave about 7 cm to the left. Start wrapping this pipe cleaner around just below the head once. Then rotate the work and pick the left 7 cm length and fold it in half and twist to make a structure for the legs. Fold the other side the same way and measure the length of the leg; secure that part in the same way.

After securing, cut the excess. Leaving about 6cm along the ends, make two more legs in the same way. This time, wrap the excess (you can also use the scrap pipe cleaner) around the space between the legs to add bulk. Now, to make the tail, just twist the remaining orange ends and and press the pipe cleaners from the top to make a perfect shape for the tail. Also, add a posed curl in the tail.

5. Fill out the Body

Take another long orange pipe cleaner. Start at the neck, the legs and wrap it around the “spine” wires over and over again. This makes the fox’s body look thick and fluffy.

7. Add the White Belly
Take a white pipe cleaner and fold it to fit the length of the fox’s underside. Use the hot glue gun to stick it from the chest all the way to the back legs. This gives the fox its classic white belly.

8. Smooth the Fur (Optional)
If the fox looks too “fuzzy” or messy, an adult can quickly run a lighter flame over the pipe cleaner. This burns off the long stray hairs and makes the fox look smooth and realistic.

Your pipe cleaner fox is now ready!
