The tutorial for the easiest DIY plushie I have ever talked about is finally here! So, this summer, make this reversible kawaii octopus plushie out of a big towel without any sewing or cutting with this method.

You can also turn it into a mood octopus plushie by sewing a basic expression over it if you are gonna dedicating your towel completely to this plushie. Give it as a present to little ones this summer, and they will love to cuddle it up!

You can fold it in less than 4 minutes, and because we shall use the rubber band to secure it with a rubber band, it can be reversed back to a towel in no time. Now, let me show you how to make this pluhsie!

Difficulty: None

Time: 4 Minutes

Uses of this Octopus Plushie

  • Travel Comfort: Because it is made of a towel and a single elastic, it makes for a great travel “toy” for kids that can be easily disassembled if a towel is needed in an emergency.
  • Desk Buddy: Set one near your monitor or on a shelf as a “fidget” decor.
  • Retail Display: If you are showing crafts or bathroom accessories, use them as an example.

Materials Needed

  • One Hand Towel: A rectangular hand towel. You can also use Microfibre Cloth as it comes in most of the colors. You can also use pink or purple instead of red.
  • One Rubber Band: A strong, clear, or color-matched elastic.
  • Kawaii Eye Stickers: To make it look “cute.”
  • Optional Ribbon: To cover the rubber band.

DIY Octopus Plushie: Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these step-by-step instructions to make an octopus plushie:

The Double Roll 1/2:

Starting from the top side, roll the towel tightly to the center. Stop exactly in the middle.

The Double Roll 2/2:

Repeat this fold from the bottom side until both rolls meet in the center, resembling a double scroll.

The First Fold:

Pick up the rolled towel. Fold it in half so that the two “scroll” ends meet and the folded middle is at the top. This folded top part will become the head. The bottom will make 4 arms of this kawaii plushie.

From the Head

The top fold has two layers. Insert the bottom layer into the top layer, bring it down about one-third of the way, and wrap a rubber band tightly around the entire bundle.

This way, you will have a smooth head for the octopus. This “pinches” the towel, makes the head, and also lets the rolls below fan out.

Define the Arms:

Take the four loose roll ends hanging below the rubber band. Gently pull them outward and slightly apart. Because of the way the towel was double-rolled, these naturally separate into sections that look like octopus arms.

Apply the Face:

Peel your kawaii eye stickers and place them on the front of the rounded head. For the best “kawaii” aesthetic, place the eyes slightly lower on the head and further apart.

Final Shaping:

Give the “tentacles” a little tug to be sure the octopus stands upright or sits flat on its base. If you have a ribbon, tie it over the rubber band to look like a little scarf.

And here is how you can make an octopus plushie out of a towel!
