Make this Mother’s Day room decoration gift popsicle stick organizer this summer in 6 simple steps! This is a painted pop stick and empty water bottle recycling craft with CUTE yellow, pink and the blue acrylic paint, silver glittery foaming sheet ribbon and craft stick hearts finish.
This color-combo is called the “pastel pop” combo and was also used in the sticky note pen holder and also paper tube star basket. You can also make it as a back-to-school present for kids as a popsicle stick pen holder and this is exactly what I named it.
But because there are those tiny hearts, you can write your Mother’s Day greeting over and gift your mom, too. She can use it as her jewelries, crochet hook or needle holder. One of this combo was also used in one of the Mother’s Day gift ideas I discussed, last week. Anyway, here, I will guide you step-by-step making it and it is definitely last-minute.

Techniques Kids can learn: With this craft stick holder and decoration craft, kids can learn the following techniques:
- Painting the popsicle sticks
- Cutting a plastic bottle using a utility knife
- Cutting a popsicle stick without breaking into the fibers
Materials Used
Here are the things you need to make this lovely popsicle stick decoration:
- An empty clear plastic water bottle
- A craft knife (box cutter) called utility knife.
- Wooden popsicle sticks (long!) – buy more than 30 sticks!
- A hot glue gun
- Tweezers (optional, for placing small pieces)
- Paint brushes
- Acrylic paint (pink, light blue, and yellow)
- Silver glitter tape or ribbon (foaming sheet strip!)
Pop Stick Pencil Holder Decoration: Step-by-Step Instructions
Here are the step-by-step instructions to make this painted popsicle stick craft, room decoration and organizer:
Step 1: Preparing the Base
Have an empty 500ml, clean plastic water bottle. Using your craft knife, cut the bottle in half horizontally.
You will only need the bottom half of the bottle to be used as the cup or what you say, the base, for your pen holder. You can discard or recycle the top half.
Step 2: Attaching the Popsicle Sticks
Take your hot glue gun and draw a vertical line of glue from the top edge to the bottom edge of your plastic cup.
Press a wooden popsicle stick onto the glue line so it stands straight up.
Repeat this process, gluing the sticks right next to each other all the way around the bottle until the plastic is completely covered and hidden by a wooden fence of popsicle sticks.
You might need 20 to 22 popsicle sticks to go all the way around without leaving gaps.
Step 3: Making the Wooden Hearts
To make the heart decorations, take a few leftover popsicle sticks and cut the rounded ends off at an angle.
When you take two of these angled pieces and join the straight cuts together, they make a perfect little heart shape! Make one larger heart and a few smaller ones.
Step 4: Placing the Heart Decorations
Using a small dab of hot glue (and tweezers if it helps you grip the small pieces), attach the wooden hearts to the front of your pen holder.
Place the large heart near the top center, and attach the smaller hearts below it. Three will be okay!
Step 5: Painting the Pen Holder
Once all the glue is dry, it’s time to paint. Use a paintbrush to coat the outside of the popsicle stick holder including the large heart in the center with pink paint.
Next, use a smaller detail brush to paint the smaller scattered hearts in pastel yellow and light blue.
Step 6: Last Stuff
To complete the look and hide the uneven edges of the popsicle sticks, take your silver glitter tape and wrap a band securely around the very top edge of the pen holder.
Wrap a second band of silver tape around the bottom edge.
And that’s how you can DIY this CUTE and girlish heart basket with popsicle sticks!
