Quick Pom Pom Guide for this DIY Christmas Gnome Yarn Plush Toy
Skill Level: Beginner – level 3 (making a 2-colored pom pom, cutting the felt & popstick, making a cone out of felt, and making small pom poms).
Pom pom variation: Stacked pom pom & yarn wrapping for the arms
To make the pom pom body for this gnome plush, you will start with the red yarn and wrap it 140 times around your 4 fingers. You will separate that wrapping and set it aside. Then, make 50 wraps with the cream yarn around your 4 fingers again. You will stack the cream wrapping over the other and knot them from the fingers together.
Cut the excess and trim the loops of both wrappings to finish the gnome pom pom body. Also, trim all around to make a smooth, bicolor sphere pom pom. Then, you will make the skate by cutting a jumbo popstick in half and making a sharp corner on both sides.
To add the curve, you will also want to sand the sides. Then, you will make the hat by taking a 9cm by 9cm felt piece, joining the corner, and cutting the excess with a straight cut. That’s all from me. To learn how to make this gnome, please refer to the step-by-step video tutorial!

- Felt sheet (9 cm × 9 cm piece for the hat)
- Snowflake sequins (to decorate the hat)
- Jumbo craft popsicle stick (popstick) (cut in half for the skis)
- Toothpicks (for the ski poles)
- Small pom poms (for the ends of the ski poles, if desired)
- Hot glue or craft glue (for assembly)
- Scissors
- Sandpaper (to smooth and curve the skis)
- A marker to use as a circle base
Optional Materials
- Keychain ring (to make a keychain)
- Ornament string or ribbon (to make a Christmas ornament)
- Bag charm clasp (to use it as a bag charm)
