Try these DIY Memorial Day Craft Activities for All Ages

This discussion will put together some REALLY clever DIY Memorial Day gathering decorations, favors, toys for kids, and beaded bracelets. These are medium difficulty, both pre- and Memorial Day activities that will be equally engaging for kids. So they can take part in crafting to feel and honor those military personnel.

That’s why I will also talk about FUN crafts, such as Memorial Day slime, party favors (mainly for the 4th of July!), airplane toys, and gnome handprint crafts.

However, I have focused more on red, blue, and white decorations other than buntings, such as the Memorial Day wreath, gift jar topper, tissue paper star, sparkle bottles, and much more. Looking for American Flags?

Yup! I have included SOME nice ways, such as the popsicle stick craft (easy!), paper plate and tissue paper Flag bunting, and also pom pom flag. Overall, you will find tissue paper, a popsicle stick, a handprint, and many popular craft types. So, with all that said, let’s dive into these Memorial Day craft ideas and activities!

Suggestion #1: Memorial Day Wreath Craft

Let’s begin with this DIY American Flag Memorial Day wreath for the front door decoration. It is an upcycling craft, too, as you can use cardboard shipping boxes to cut the wreath base. To cut the circular base, you can also take the help of a FREE printable template or take two different-sized plates to trace and cut out a cardboard ring.

You can also gather the kids around you so they can help you attach the red, blue, and white tissue papers to make the layered flowers. She suggests 5 red, 5 white, and 3 blue flowers.

To maintain the theme, hang it using the red, white, and blue striped band or ribbon. It also has yarn wrappings made on the blue part to make the stars! So, definitely the most ELEGANT decoration to welcome the guests!

Suggestion #2: Patriotic Slime

As Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer, why not celebrate it with this Patriotic Memorial Day slime recipe for the kids? Using glue, glitter, and some food coloring in addition to the usual homemade slime recipe, you can make this slime. Save this recipe for the 4th of July, too!

This stretchy slime has stripes of red, blue, and white, as well as the small star sequins. You can also put some fine glitter to make it even shinier. Kids will LOVE to play with this COLORFUL slime!

Suggestion #3: 4th of July Coffee Filter Flowers

Quickly decorate a Memorial Day candy gift jar with these coffee filter flower toppers for mason jars. Be sure to have a white coffee filter, as we shall want to paint them with the watercolor, which makes a NICE pastel look. As the stem, we shall use the pipe cleaner and wrap the small 1.5-inch piece around the base to secure all the petal layers.

These flower toppers will make the REALLY elegant centrepieces, and you can make them as bulky as you want! It is so easy that kids can definitely join in the Memorial Day crafting with you!

Suggestion #4: Clothespin Airplanes

Finally, a Memorial Day toy to fill the kids with bravery spirit! Make these quick, painted clothespin airplanes themed after Snoopy’s Sopwith Camel and his nemesis, the Red Baron, in either red, yellow, dull yellow-green, or brown. It also requires craft sticks and paint pens for drawing the symbols on the plane.

While many clothespin airplane crafts are made for toddlers, this version also needs sanding and cutting the pieces, so be sure you are here to help the kids. You can also make Memorial Day scenes, window decorations, and more out of these planes!

Suggestion #4: Pom Pom Flag Craft

Let’s make a softie American Flag wall hanging that can also be turned into a tote bag with this method. It is a 20-minute patriotic activity for kids, only requiring identifying the colors of the pom poms and gluing them onto a painting panel. For the same size, use an 8×10-inch craft canvas, but I recommend keeping them engaged by using a smaller one.

Or, you can use big pom poms! It also features the white buttons (to represent stars) and a patriotic ribbon similar to the suggestion #1 for hanging. There are many educational benefits, like motor skills, color recognition, and basic pattern and counting exercises.

Suggestion #5: Popsicle Stick American Flag

Now, let’s make an American flag even easier and quicker with this popsicle stick flag craft for kids. You can also make it for the 4th of July or Veterans Day. Just requires 12 Jumbo craft sticks per 2 flags. Luckily, kids don’t need to cut out the stars; the recommendation is to use the Dollar Tree wooden stars.

Or they can also use the star stickers, foaming sheet stars, and paper stars. Requires painting four sticks red, four sticks white, and four sticks blue. The remaining steps are SIMPLY easy!

Suggestion #6: Rocket Party Favors

Are you gonna have a party with kids on Memorial Day? Make these Memorial Day rocket party favors (yes, for unofficial fireworks in the daylight!). You can tear up the tissue paper easily, and that’s the idea behind this craft. That is to make a CLEVER and FUN rocket party favor that uses patterned scrapbook paper, baker’s twine, and white tissue paper.

Features a rocket topper and a fringed tissue paper tail that can be pulled to let the candies poop out. You can also craft one for birthdays or the 4th of July with a relevant pattern and color on the book paper.
