While a hand-sewn bucket hat ends up definitely ELEGANT, the charm of crocheted bucket hats is irresistible. Summer is finally here! So, in this weekly crochet discussion, I will share free crochet patterns for all the popular variations of a crochet bucket and sun hat (almost!).
Based on appearance, those will be the solid, granny square, summer’s fruit, and flower-themed and striped bucket hats. As for the types, I will cover both the flared brim and fisherman brim bucket hats.
Some patterns will offer only 1 size (adult mostly!), while a few will even go up to 6 sizes. However, for most of these crochet bucket hats, you can adjust the size pretty easily, so don’t worry about that.
For example, just reduce the number of rounds for each square and the number of rows for the crown and brim. Choose from my FAVS, such as the strawberry bucket hat and pastel sunburst granny hat, here. Granny square hats, in particular, are in abundance, so be sure to remake at least one of them.
Tip: Granny square variations make a perfect way to make a unique bucket hat, as all follow the same construction method. You can try the daisy, sunflower, classic, dot square, and a few more variations.
Suggestion #1: Sunny Stitches Crochet Bucket Hat
Let’s begin the discussion with this “pastel pop” crochet sunburst granny square hat. This is a colorful 4-granny bucket hat with a stripe stitch texture around the squares and a white solid brim edging.
Normally, sunburst squares are crocheted with a sunflower palette, but this one features pastel ones such as yellow, pink, blue, and purple. This makes it a must-have “spring memory” bucket hat.
Suggestion #2: Easy Crochet Sun Hat
Learn how to crochet a simple, solid bucket hat in any size with this pattern. This is a perfect domed hat, as there are no crochet increase lines that can make your hat look lumpy.
This crochet hat can be worn in two ways: that is, the normal floppy bucket hat style, and by folding the brim up like in a fisherman’s hat. Because of the Rafia yarn, it will hold its shape. There are now patterns for two sizes available.
Suggestion #3: Crochet Bucket Hat Pattern (Paid)
Maybe you prefer a flat top bucket hat! If that’s the case, try this crochet solid bucket hat with a PDF pattern. This is an easy bucket hat that even beginners can crochet.
Unlike the hat in suggestion #2, the brim starts invisibly, and it can only be worn in one way, even crocheted using the Rafia Yarn. You can also use cotton yarn for this hat, just as HayHay crochet tested and suggested.

Suggestion #4: Crochet Bucket of Stripes Hat
Crochet this striped top-down bucket in any size with this pattern! It is a short-brim hat crocheted using the granny stitch except for the brim, which requires solid stitching.
It is a redesign of the Red Heart hat pattern crocheted using soft, 100% cotton yarn for summer, keeping in mind the baby’s needs. You can, however, crochet it for any age. The stripe pattern uses dark shades of the colors on white, such as blue, pink, and yellow.
Suggestion #5: Granny Square Bucket Hat (Ravelry)
With this FREE pattern, learn how to crochet a short-brim bucket hat using 4 classic granny squares. Unlike suggestion #1, the top circle also has a granny square.
The bottom brim is worked later on using solid stitches just as in the top. Just download the FREE PDF that has a pattern for 1 size and start crocheting it if you like the idea.
Suggestion #6: Watermelon Sun Hat Crochet Pattern
Not to miss the summer’s most beloved theme, let’s crochet this watermelon bucket hat as a Mother’s Day gift idea. Crochet the pink top and green brim separated by a white “rind” stripe, with embroidered black “v” all around.
I cannot say this bucket has a perfect dome, but it looks elegant, anyway. With the raised brim, it won’t be floppy.
Suggestion #7: Blossom Bucket Hat Crochet Pattern
Let’s crochet a breathable and elegant daisy square bucket hat with this pattern. Requires 6 motifs per hat and additional crocheting using the double crochet. The idea is as follows: you first crochet the squares and seam them.

Looking for a gender-neutral crochet hat, especially for a child? Try this striped bucket hat using 100% cotton yarn. Only requires basic stitches like double and half-double.
The free pattern has instructions for sizes between 3 and 6 months. But you can get the ad-free pattern for 3 more sizes, such as 6 – 12 months, 1 – 3 years, and 3 – 10 years.
Suggestion #9: Bobble Granny Square Bucket Hat
This crochet bucket hat is crocheted from five “bobble drop flower” granny squares. This granny square is unique and not common, so you can definitely stand out with this hat.
To complete the hat, the squares are joined into a band and attached to a separately crocheted flat circular crown. Then crochet a classic flared brim worked in double and single crochet rounds.
Suggestion #10: Strawberry Bucket Hat Crochet Pattern
Let’s crochet a strawberry bucket hat using red yarn and add a cute leafy top with this pattern. It has yellow embroidery “seeds” all around, too. Requires half double crochet and double crochet to make a solid texture that is also flexible.
