Free Crochet Spooky Kitten Pumpkin Amigurumi Pattern for Halloween & Fall

Continuing the “crochet fall pumpkin” amigurumi series, today, let’s crochet this UNIQUE kitten pumpkin amigurumi with a FREE pattern. It is a part of the crochet pumpkin kitty doll plushie, and we are actually gonna make the face of our pumpkin kitty with this pattern. I initially did not plan it, but you see, it looks SO FULL & CUTE even as a standalone fall & Halloween bag charm.

This crochet cat pumpkin has ears made of fuzzy yarn and a spooky embroidered mouth, too. We shall crochet this pumpkin cat face by working in the rounds, unlike the ribbed pumpkin amigurumi. You can also crochet it using the chenille yarn to make a fall softie for you. Continue reading for the full crochet pattern to make this amigurumi pumpkin cat.

  • dec: Decrease (Invisible decrease recommended)
  • BLO: Back loop only
  • sl st: Slip stitch
  • st(s): Stitch(es)
  • [ ] * X: Repeat the instructions inside the brackets X times

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. The Stem & Pumpkin Body

Start with Cream/Off-White yarn. The stem is worked from the top down.

  • Rnd 1: 6 sc in a magic ring (6)
  • Rnd 2: BLO 6 sc (6)
  • Rnd 3: 5 sc, 1 inc (7)
  • Rnd 4: 3 sc, 1 inc, 3 sc (8)
  • Rnd 5: [3 sc, 1 inc] * 2 (10)

Note: The slip stitches (sl st) in the following rounds are meant to be worked at normal tension. They will form the natural indentation creases of your pumpkin.

Switch to Orange yarn.

  • Rnd 6: (3 sc in the next single crochet, 1 sl st) * 2, 4 sc in the next single crochet, (1 sl st, 3 sc in the next single crochet) * 2, 1 sl st (21)
  • Rnd 7: (3 inc, 1 sl st) * 2, 4 inc, (1 sl st, 3 inc) * 2, 1 sl st (37)

More:

  • Rnd 8: (2 sc, 2 inc, 2 sc, 1 sl st) * 2, 3 sc, 2 inc, 3 sc, 1 sl st, (2 sc, 2 inc, 2 sc, 1 sl st) * 2 (47)
  • Rnd 9–24 (16 rows): (8 sc, 1 sl st) * 2, 10 sc, 1 sl st, (8 sc, 1 sl st) * 2 (47)

Eye Placement

Stop here to place the safety eyes. Insert them between Rounds 15 and 16. Put the first eye at approximately the 21st stitch of the row and the second eye at the 27th stitch. There should be 5 stitches visible between the eyes. Secure the backings tightly.

  • Rnd 25: (4 dec, 1 sl st) * 2, 5 dec, 1 sl st, (4 dec, 1 sl st) * 2 (26)
  • Stuff the pumpkin firmly with fiberfill, ensuring it holds its round, ridged shape.
  • Rnd 26: 13 dec (13)

Fasten off, leaving a long yarn tail. Thread the tail through the remaining stitches, pull tightly to close the bottom hole, knot securely, and weave in your ends.

2. The Cat Ears (Make 2)

Use Fluffy Black yarn. Do not stuff the ears.

  • Rnd 1: 4 sc in a magic ring (4)
  • Rnd 2: [1 sc, 1 inc] * 2 (6)
  • Rnd 3: [2 sc, 1 inc] * 2 (8)
  • Rnd 4: [3 sc, 1 inc] * 2 (10)
  • Rnd 5: 1 sc, 1 inc, 2 sc, 1 inc, 4 sc, 1 inc (13)
  • Rnd 6: [2 sc, 1 inc] * 2, 6 sc, 1 inc (16)
  • Rnd 7: 16 sc (16)

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing them to the pumpkin.

Assembly & Face Details

Inner Ear Detail

Using your pink yarn and a tapestry needle, embroider two layered “V” shapes onto the front center of each black ear to create the pink inner-ear look.

Sewing the Ears

Flatten the ears slightly and sew them to the top sides of the orange pumpkin, roughly around Rounds 7 to 10, framing the stem nicely.

Embroidering the Face

Nose: Using black yarn, embroider a small upside-down triangle right between the eyes.

Mouth: Bring the black yarn down from the point of the nose to make a small vertical line, then split it into a wide, gentle “W” shape for a classic cat smile. Add tiny horizontal lines at the edges for eyebrows just above the eyes.

Fangs: Using pink yarn, embroider two tiny vertical lines pointing downward from the loops of the mouth to give your cat pumpkin its adorable little vampire fangs!
