Tutorial to Make A Halloween Pumpkin from Crepe Paper

This project shows how to make a pumpkin from paper. You use orange crepe paper and a cardboard tube. First, you glue the paper into a long tube. You slide it onto a cardboard roll and push it down. This makes the paper look wrinkled and bumpy like a real pumpkin.

Then, you take it off and glue the ends together to make a round shape. You add a brown stem and a green leaf on top. Finally, you can add a black face. It is a fun and easy craft for kids and adults to do for Halloween.

Detailed Step-by-Step Instructions

What You Need:

  • Orange crepe paper

  • White glue or a glue stick

  • A cardboard tube (like a toilet paper roll)

  • Hot glue gun

  • Brown cardboard or paper

  • Green paper

  • Black paper

  • Scissors

Step 1: Glue the Crepe Paper
Take a long, wide strip of orange crepe paper. Apply a line of white glue along one of the long edges of the paper.

Step 2: Wrap the Tube
Wrap the crepe paper around your cardboard tube. Make sure the glued edge overlaps with the other edge so it forms a paper sleeve around the tube. Do not glue the paper to the tube; just glue the paper to itself.

Step 3: Make the Wrinkles
Hold the cardboard tube upright. Use both hands to push the paper sleeve down toward the bottom of the tube. This will create many small, tight folds (wrinkles) in the crepe paper.

Step 4: Form the Pumpkin Shape
Slide the wrinkled paper off the cardboard tube. Use a hot glue gun to put glue on one of the open ends of the paper sleeve. Connect the two ends together to form a round “donut” shape.

Step 5: Adjust the Shape
Gently pull and fluff the paper with your fingers until it looks like a round, puffy pumpkin.

Step 6: Make the Stem
Take a small rectangular piece of brown cardboard. Roll it up tightly to make a small cone or cylinder. Trim the bottom with scissors so it can sit flat.

Step 7: Assemble the Top
Cut a star shape out of green paper to look like a leaf. Glue the green leaf to the top center of the pumpkin. Then, glue the brown stem on top of the leaf.

Step 8: Add the Face
Cut two small triangles out of black paper for the eyes. Cut a jagged shape for the mouth. Glue these onto the front of your pumpkin to make it look like a Jack-o’-lantern.

Step 9: Light it up (Optional)
You can place a small LED tea light inside the center of the pumpkin to make it glow at night!
